Abstract Background: Since social workers present services in health centers in our country and are engaged in presentation of basic health services, particularly to villagers, their trends, needs and difficulties must be noticed. Objective: To determine major effective factors in professional satisfaction of social workers of health centers of Qazvin and Boin Zahra. Methods: 158 social workers (Males and females) took part in this background study from 1997 to 1998. The information about major effective factors in their professional satisfaction was collected by a questionnaire. Findings: The findings indicated that 88% of the social workers had professional satisfaction because they resided at the same village of their workplace, 84.1% were satisfied because they felt they had an effective role in solving health problems and 80% were satisfied of the activities at health centers. The least degree of satisfaction included: time-tabling of health centers (33.3%), work-relations between social workers and their supervisors (30.2%) and possibilities for progress and professional improvement (23.4%). Conclusion: It can be concluded that units of this research had approximately high professional satisfaction.
