Abstract Background: Enteropathogenic E.coli (ECEC) is one of the main causes of diarrhea in under one year old children. Objective: To determine the prevalence of diarrhea caused by Enteropathogenic E.Coli in under one year old children. Methods: In a descriptive study and through a sequential route sampling, 400 children who were admitted in treatment centers of Sari during 1997 to 1998 were understudy .Sample analysis was done with the help of standard microbiological diagnostic method and strain typing E.Coli was performed by slide agglutination test, using polyvalant antiserum. Findings: The findings indicated that 12% of diarrheal cases belonged to strains of entropathogenic E.Coli, 19% of mothers were aware of the routes of prevention of bacterial half of a day and 45% belonged to families who dodnot use standard sanitory drinking water 55% of the diarrheas were caused at summer. Conclusion: A broad range of EPEC strains cause diarrhea in under one year old children.
