Background: Health literacy is an important tool for health decision making and enables individuals to adopt health promotion behaviors and maintain and promote health behaviors. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between elderly health literacy and elderly self-efficacy.
Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive-correlational study was conducted on the elderly of Ramsar city in 2017. 144 randomly selected cluster sampling was conducted. The instrument of the questionnaire was self-efficacy questionnaire of elderly health behaviors and general adult health literacy. Data were analyzed using SPSS softwareData were analyzed by SPSS software version 16.
Results: Most of the elderly were female (59%), married (86.8%), housewife (52.8%) and under graduate (35.4%) with mean age 68.65 ± 2.12 years . Pearson statistical test showed a significant relationship between elderly health literacy and self-efficacy (P = 0.0001).
Conclusion: Regarding the role of health literacy in increasing the self-efficacy of policy-makers in health systems, they should pay attention to the health literacy problem in planning health systems.
